Update from the Alliance: 
Webinars Support Launch of New Plan
Following the release of the new National Physical Activity Plan in April the NPAP Alliance participated in a series of webinars to highlight the revisions and discuss the continued importance of the plan.  In one of these recent webinars, hosted by the American Public Health Association, Chairman of the NPAPA Board of Directors Russell Pate, PhD discussed the history, organizational structure, and specific content of the new National Physical Activity plan.  These opportunities provide a detailed overview for individuals who may be unfamiliar with the plan.  A recording of the complete webinar can be viewed here.

New Workbook serves as Tool for Planners, Parks and Health Practitioners 
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Park Service (NPS) have developed a new tool that helps communities find health information and learn about the importance of parks, trails and greenways.  The Parks, Trails, and Health Workbook: A Tool for Planners, Parks and Recreational Professionals, and Health Practitioners also includes detailed case studies which provides advice and suggestions for planning, executing and evaluation.  To learn more and check out the workbook click here

American Fitness Index releases list of Most Fit Cities 2016
Last month the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Anthem Foundation released the annual American Fitness Index (AFI) report awarding Washington, D.C. as the Most Fit City in the United States.  The rankings, based on both a personal and community score, serve as a trusted measure of health in metro areas.  This years report noted positives shifts in several health policies and behaviors including an increase in self-reported exercise, required physical education, and spending on parks.  In an effort to support continued change and improvement ACSM and Anthem Foundation also released the AFI Community Action Guide which includes critical factors to effective community action.  To learn more about this year's rankings visit the AFI website or download the full report.
CDC's Walk to Fly Project Encourages Active Choices within the Nation's Airports
In an effort to create physical activity opportunities within all aspects of communities the CDC recently released an Airport Walking Guide.  Developed as a resource for airport managers the document includes an introduction to the health benefits of walking, airport specific benefits and strategies for encouraging walking.  To download the entire document click here.
American Heart Association 
Releases 2016 Policy Report
The American Heart Association newly released 2016 Policy Report provides a summary of the organization's many policy positions.  The document also includes an exhaustive review of the evidence base behind the AHA's Strategic Policy Agenda, included to help inform the health policy work and research of others.  To check out the report click here.
Latest Infographic Outlines Effects of Inadequate Physical Activity
The CDC's latest infographic focuses on the effects of inadequate physical activity nationwide including the impact on health, the economy, and America's military readiness.  The many personal and community benefits of physical activity are also included.  Download a copy here.
Workshop Summary Reports on Obesity in the Early Childhood Years
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Roundtable on Obesity Solutions released their "Obesity in the Early Childhood Years: State of the Science and Implementation of Promising Solutions: Workshop Summary" earlier this month.  The workshop, held in late 2015, explored risk factors, effective solutions and opportunities for interventions.  To read a summary of the event, download the workshop summary here.
