National Conference
On July 1-2, 2009, over three hundred individuals representing more than two hundred organizations gathered in Washington, D.C. for a working conference aimed at generating the content that would lay the foundation for the National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP).
Plenary sessions of the two-day conference featured national and international experts in the field of physical activity and public health. Presentations highlighted evidence supporting policy change that ultimately will yield increases in population levels of physical activity.
Breakout groups met over the course of the conference to review the summary recommendations from white papers for each of the eight societal sectors. In addition to the summary recommendations, breakout groups were briefed on evidence from what has and has not worked in other nations, while also considering organizational polling for prioritizing the content of the NPAP.
