Which of the 8 Sectors
are you involved in and why did you choose that particular
sector?
Education – The K-12 setting has been my area of interest for more than 35 years. I believe the potential to positively influence children in school settings is limitless. Consistent and accurate messages regarding the importance of physical activity imparted by trained educators is an important part of the solution to inactivity.
What's most
exciting to you about the U.S. having a National Physical
Activity Plan?
The most exciting thing about the plan is the potential impact on the nation. The formulation of the plan with the help of our country’s most acknowledged scholars adds credibility and substance to existing programs that promote the value of physical activity. It also addresses areas of concern that communities, schools and faith based initiatives may not have considered.
What will success
of the NPAP look like to you in 3 years, 5 years? 10 years?
I hope that it will encourage states to create/adopt a state plan to address the unique barriers that are causing health issues within the confines of their state. I think in the 5-10 year span it will create awareness and action plans to eradicate health problems caused by inactivity and sedentary lifestyles.
