U.S. Report Card on Walking and Walkable Communities

The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities calls on Americans to be more physically active through walking and calls on the nation to better support walking and walkability. A report card on this subject will provide an initial assessment of walking and walkable communities and provide strategies and solutions to improve physical activity levels in the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has funded the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance to design and implement a U.S. Report Card on Walking and Walkable Communities. The National Physical Activity Plan Alliance formed an Ad Hoc Committee, Walking and Walkability Committee, which will publish a report card based on national level data that reflects levels of walking and walkable communities among the general population and, where available, among population subgroups.
